Many of you probably have not experienced,
‘Hypothermia’, first hand.
The first, 3/16, or 1/4, of it, you are aware.
The rest of the 13/16s or 3/4s
You are NOT aware, you HAVE it.Your fishing, very early spring, your buddy, fell in the creek, is now soaking wet.
He continues fishing, ‘Just a little Cold’.
You come down the stream, you see him walking about aimlessly,
No rod, no hat,
(YOU know, what is happening to him),So you drop your gear, and rush him to the car to start it and put the heater on full blast, and take off as many wet clothing as you can.
Your Deer hunting in the North Woods.
6 of you, all experienced outdoorsman.
All about the same time, you all come in from hunting to the cabin.
(
Everyone has a a, ‘watch’, ya know)Knock the snow off, go on the porch take off the boots and heavy jackets,
(Telling lies about the, ‘big one’, that you saw)and start milling inside. Someone says, ‘Where’s Bob ?”
It doesn’t take 10 seconds, and one says, “I got the Fire’,
And stays behind, turns the heat up, starts a roaring fire in the wood stove,
heats up water for coffee, and soup.
4, get clothes on, take their guns, head out side,
and take different paths, to where, ‘Bob’, should be.
(Guns are not for hunting, but signaling,
Does not need to be said, just known)In 1/2 hour or so, you hear 3 shots. Everyone rushes to those shots.
Here is Bob. The finder is holding him as best he could, as walking as fast as he could.
The other three, drop their guns on the path,
and Literally, carry him to the cabin.
The cabin must me 95+ by now, everyone takes off, ALL his clothes off,
Wrap him in blankets, (which were already stripped off the beds, and hanging over chairs next to the fire)
When the blankets are on, he started, ’Shivering’,
(WE ALL, breathed a sigh of relief) Then started giving him sips of hot coffee/soup.
When he was found, he was walking aimlessly.
No gun, No Hat, No Jacket, No Gloves, and was unbuttoning his shirt.Or, you are 14. You are Duck hunting with your Dad.
He has a buddy of his with. You and your Dad, are on the ground, on the point.
His buddy, took a boat, and is in the water.
Later, hear a, ’Splash’. Then shouts for help.
We both ran off the point to the other boat, I went out in the boat.
Found him, In the Water, hanging on the overturned boat.
Dad ran up the hill, and drove the PU down as close as he could get it.
When I pulled him in the floating boat, he said:
(Never Forget this)“Ya know I was Shivering so bad, I didn’t know if I could hang on to the boat any longer, but I am Fine now, I stopped ‘Shivering”Got him in the Truck, Dad had already called home.
(We had, FM, business band radios, in the cars, office, And the House) ’Turn the heat up, fill the bathtub with, ‘Warm, water’, make some hot coco’
10 min later, in the house, got him in the water, and he started, ’Shivering again’.
Didn’t know it then, but noticed the, wave of relief, from my Parents.
In ALL those, ‘experienced’, cases.
The last thing they remembered,
was, ’Violently Shivering’.So now, If you haven’t experienced, Hypothermia. you may know a bit more about it.
And perhaps you will understand, “mass hysteria”, better.
(Which we see here on this Forum, and on the TV, ’News’)
It is the Same Thing. The good part. Someone can, ‘recover’, from,
“mass hysteria”Easier than,
Hypothermiahttp://blog.dilbert.com/post/164297628606/how-to-know-youre-in-a-mass-hysteri...
(Seems like, a frequent poster here,
is, ’Violently Shivering’)
