In the minds of 99.9% of the population up until last year, standing for the anthem was not necessarily a political statement. It was a communal acknowledgement of respect and gratitude for the nation. By kneeling, some turned it into a political protest. Which is fine, I don't think it's necessarily un-america to kneel. However, my opinion is the reasons these guys have given is ironic given these black men make hundreds of times the annual salaries of the average person under that same flag which in virtually every other nation, they'd be living in poverty, but whatever. Intelligence is not a requirement for playing football. But when those same people now stand on Veterans Day, that is different because they choose to kneel another day. If I go to a game later this week and stand for the anthem as I normally do, I'm not making a political protest. Regardless, the NFL will never recover. It won't be the same ever again. By the way, I refuse to put my hand over my heart during the anthem. My "heart and soul" are not pledged to America. It's the greatest nation this globe has ever produced and I would fight if called to defend her, but the idea of a hand over my heart is too symbolic for me to participate in. Is that a protest on my part? Maybe.
As WM said,
“standing for the anthem was not necessarily a political statement’. ‘It was a communal acknowledgement of respect and gratitude’.I remember a player who gave his opinion when making a score, thanking a a Deity.
And the Press, just SLAMMED him. That was his ‘Opinion’, not a, ‘Political’, statement.
(However now, the ANTIFA Ideals Supporters, are working to make, that, ‘Political’)Only after a football player, who couldn’t find his Azz with both hands,
Knelt,
did people call it a, ‘Political’, statement.
But things do change. Take the word, ‘GAY’,
It used to mean a, ‘Happy’, person, now it means something else.
(And their are so many other words, that when written had one meaning, and now have another)
So, to, ‘Force’, a person, to have a, ‘certain’, Political Belief.
It is the same, as TT, giving his/her, Political Belief, (which is perfectly all right).
Yet to say, over and over, and over again, again, again, the likes of:
‘If you do not believe what I Believe, you are a … … … … … Same as a Religion, To,
‘Force,’ someone to believe in a certain,
‘religion’.
It not what this country was built on. (Sure some religions, ’sell’, their religion)Yet their is Only ONE, I can think of that says:
'You Will Believe, or I will KILL you'So here is a possible fix.
Before a game, if a player, wants to Stand with their hand over their heart, Kneel, Scratch their Butt, toss a ball around, sit on a bench and talk, stay in the locker room.
Let them. It is their, ‘Choice’.
Their is a, Reaction, to what their, Actions are. I, also have a, ‘Choice’, to Pay to see a ‘game’.
