pssst - hey web, your intelligence is showing...

Nice job!

Too bad you can't debate my points of number of firearms in the US, why one Amendment has a "higher cost" and why people like you equate "reform" with "banning".

Oh well, I'm not surprised.

I look forward to your next, explicitive filled, threatening PM.

A different equation today,

Well Thanks, you just screwed up this thread......

I specifically asked to not address the right to bear arms, that is a argument of its own distinction, as is the freedom of religion as opposed to freedom from religion, as well as many other interpretations on other issues.

I was hoping we could find dialogue in a healthy exchange, maybe even find common ground, like the folks in Florida have, and agreed to build from what they can agree upon, and address the things they disagree about, later......

WHICH, might very well resolve themselves, when folks opt for civility and consensus, instead of mob mentality of resistance.

Again, thank you.

Let's say we find positive evidence violent video games are the common link between all shooters. Do you ban all games with violence? Movies, books, TV shows?

Web, you want to start a thread on this subject, I have some things to add to it if you do?

Why do folks want/need at AK47 assault rifle?
Please, I am not looking for the right to bear arms argument, but what is this weapons draw?

Very Simple.   Ya can’t have one, so I want one.
That attitude occurs with just about everything.

Heck look at a current T.V.  Commercial,
‘A Store, people crowd in, grabbing every Avacotto  they can,
While the news says: “ Avacotto Shortage”.
Then the TV says, ‘ Avacotto’s are going to be alright,
it is Prunes that will be in shortage.
Everone droops the, Avacotto’s,  and runs to grab the Prunes.

SKS’s,  kinnaLike a AK-47,  (different group of countries)
Sold for  99.99, Top of the Line Colt, AR-15 Style, HBAR’s, sold for 500.00.  AK-47’s were a few here and their, and depending on their condition, and country of origin, they were selling for 100 to 250.00.

Just  AFTER,  Clinton,  BANNED, the (mythical), ‘assault rifle’,
SKS’s up to 300.
HBAR’s, 900-1,100.00
AK-47, 350-500.00

The Price of a, ‘Black Gun’, or so called, ‘assault rifle’,
Has, HISTORICALLY, gone UP or Down, depending on
the, ‘BANNING’ of it.

Not going to get further in discussion of a political nature.
(OP  did not ask for that)
Yet I see, the NUMBER ONE,
Complainer on, 'not following a thread’,
has  Totally gone into a, Political Discussion.

           As a, Singer often said:
              “Gooolllllie  Geeee”

Wow, that is heavy.......
I see your point, how this could be a "power trip" with some serious consequences, if that person needs to extend that need even further.....

To answer the original question... I do have an AR 15 type gun. Why did I buy it?

Nothing to do with militia, or because "I could have one".

1.  The AR 15 is a modular design. The main two assemblies are the "upper" including the barrel and the action, and the "lower" including the trigger group. I can buy "uppers", using the same "lower", and that lets me have multiple calibers without buying more guns. I can easily replace parts or fit aftermarket ones without the cost or time involved going to a gunsmith. Magazines are cheap.

2. The main caliber, and the one for my AR 15, is the .223 Remington round.  It is not a powerful round and has little recoil.  I can shoot it all day without ending up with a bruised shoulder.  It is also cheap and accurate.

3. The gun is relatively cheap. I bought one towards the high end of this model, and it cost me just over $1000. To compare, I recently bought a Sharps single shot rifle which cost me well over $3000.

4.  As a firearms instructor, I needed to be familiar with one as this is the most common rifle in the USA.

You seem to have an unhealthy fascination with some long ago and forgotten PM I sent to you. If you've got some kinda crush on me, sorry , that's not my deal but notbthat there's anything wrong with that. To each his own.

How about we turn this thread back to where it started.

Ray, you can't leave 2nd Amendment out of this. Its an integral part.

To me, an assault rifle is one that is fully automatic. I was in the military and have been trained to handle a fully automatic weapon. That being said even I don't need one. The term "assault rifle" has been used incorrectly to demonize nearly every semiautomatic rifle in existence at one time or another by someone or another. We need to enforce the laws we have now and make the punishments for gun crimes Swift and extremely harsh.

JOEL - that sort of begs the question, since almost every semi automatic weapons used for mass murder has been "legally" obtained, if you include stealing from mom and/or dad, legal and you might as well.
We as a country have eliminated most "facilities for the whacko" because they are expensive to run, and a certain elephantine party aided by the Let my whacko go Donkey party has used the wink wink the Psychologist will give him (the whacko) a script for a pill, which of course has enough horrible side effects that the user will  stop using it; preferring rather to hearing voices in their heads.

What the kids are telling you, should you care to open your ears, is that the incredible ease with which whackos can purchase and then use a semi automatic weapon in these United States is killing them. Wink

Web, leaving for work, sorry, don't have time to delve in to your claim very deeply.

All I ask is for you to "separate" the gun right argument from trying to enlighten us, who do not own guns, or see their attraction.

I think the drug/booze angle hopefully helps in defining to draw a line of distinction between what is "legal" and how a legal product can have consequences, "unintended" by lawful users of the said product.

If we can try and understand that "draw", then we might be able to join all POV's, sans the rhetoric of opportunistic charlatans, who pretend they care about the problem, but really only try to use it to promote themselves....

Make sense?

Thanks.

OK web, then debate the case of "reform" and "banning".

Debate the issue of the sheer amount of guns and the original intent of the Second Amendment.

Tell us in greater detail why one Amendment comes at a higher cost than others.

Can you?

BTW, the reason I bring up your threatening PM - look at your quote above:  "Shut up TT. You're a crappity smack!ng idiot. Seriously, a crappity smack!ng idiot. "

You seem to have an anger management control problem - IMHO.

Once again - well put Trippah!  I wonder if anyone will notice that you give no comfort to either side of the aisle in this case.

Good on you!

Either the founding fathers wrote a self conflicting amendment
Or
The RIGHT of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
Means EXACTLY that.

I am pretty sure we can have a discussion about why people "want" a specific type of firearm without talking about the 2nd Amendment.

If the 2nd Amendment is the only reason you want an AR-15 then don't contribute to the conversation, as it is off-topic.

These discussions get pretty easy when we stay on-topic and stop with the name calling.
