The repairing of the economic system the banks trashed under the no rules for banks republican think aided by the make loans to the poor even though they can't repay them of the left left a hole so deep it took all of the first term to get the ship turned back to a reasonable course.

Add to the above the zealots in the EPA harassing every small business owner they could (I call it the hidden tax of the Democrat's response )(as compared to the speeding ticket hidden tax loved by the Republicans)
which pissed off every small business owner as well as BIG OIL which owns the Mississippi Basin politically.  That's my take on it, and I didn't even get into the endless wars which turned off so many.
