After giving Kim a propaganda coup and sucking up to him and treating the tyrant as an equal deserving of the respect of the US, Trump's supporters who believe anything he says, said that 'well you have to give him a chance'.

OK he's had his chance, he's cancelled Pompeo's 4th visit, Kim has called the US as 'acting like gangsters' and now Mattis says 'war games are back on'.

In other words, it's business as usual, nothing changed, Kim used Trump and as the US's representative, he made the entire US look like fools.

First off, the article you posted did not declare war gams are back. The very title includes the word MAY and not the word WILL yet you titled your post that they were definitely back on. The article correctly catches the intent of Matthis comments which is clearly a negotiating tactic. Using the phrase "no intention at this time to suspend" is purposeful language.

We are in a better position now than before with North Korea. There was no propaganda coup. No one watched that event and decided Kim was a good guy. Everyone took a wait and see approach.

Maybe the only things that will come out of the summit have already happened; in which case there was no harm done to the US.

One symptom of TDS is an inability to see events at their elementary components.

We could also try and give Trump the benefit of the doubt every now and then and say that meeting with Kim was a bold move with a high risk of failure, but also with big potential benefits.

I think Trump is one of a very limited number of leaders that could go through with such a meeting, as they are both, uhm, unusual persons. And I think he should get kudos for trying, despite the risk of it having failed.

IF, and I know it is a big if, North-Korea would begin to open their boarders and allowing a flow of people as well as trading with the outside world, and if they would reduce or shut down their nuclear arms testing, that would be huge.

"Moving on"?? Therein lies the problem mark - this isn't about business. This is about nuclear weapons. Again, HUGE difference.

Further, it makes the US look weak and/or uncaring.

We suspended our war games with nothing on paper. This is a dictator that took advantage of our ill-equipped president.

And yet again, I have to say - put a democratic president in this place and the GOPers would be going bonkers.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you Faffi.

But looking at kim's history, do you really think he's going to suddenly become this great statesman? He knowingly lets his people starve. He's ordered people opposing him to be put to death. He's threatened the US directly.

You can wish, but I don't see it happening.
