I think in a lot of cases people read the headline and consider the article supportive of their point, instead of seeing what the article says.
Not every college in the US has a safe-space but its easy to say they do. I checked with two of the local colleges, one is a community college and they have safe-space areas but those are basically a way to corral students into an area designated for information distribution. Both schools had problems with groups standing along the primary entrances basically harassing people driving in or out, and campus Police were out there daily getting on people for impeding traffic.
So where's the negative in the safe-spaces at these two colleges I wonder? If a bunch of students get their feelings hurt over pretty much anything it doesn't effect me so I haven't done much research into why safe-space allocation for students only on college funded and owned property is doing harm.
