As has been pointed out, virtually all the Democratic committee members have already said they are a NO vote before the hearing began. The papers request is just a smokescreen.

And has also been pointed out, the volume of papers they do have in hand, dwarfs the papers provided by the previous 5 nominees combined.

So the paperwork request is a nonsense request and The New Yorker is complicit in legitimizing a bogus reason the Dems will use to vote note.

If I were voting, I'd say the same thing based on his willingness to let a sitting president have full immunity.

It's a common tactic, yes.. tactic.  But it's also very effective.

I’ve been listening on and off today and he’s not said that.

Not in those exact terms perhaps, but his stance on executive power could be a dangerous one - and one that I would disqualify him on:

During his legal career, Kavanaugh has expressed two drastically different views on the U.S. v. Nixon decision and its implications for the scope of executive power. First, Kavanaugh seemed to support it. Working for Ken Starr’s investigation of Bill Clinton, Kavanaugh concluded in a 1995 internal memo that the president could be required to testify while in office. Looking to Kavanaugh’s own writings from that period shows why it’s vital that the president be made accountable. In the memo, Kavanaugh asked rhetorically, “Why should the president be different than anyone else for the purposes of responding to a grand jury subpoena?” At the time he wrote this memo, Kavanaugh seemed to believe that in the American legal system, prosecutors need to find the truth, regardless of how powerful the accused person is.

But this view of a constrained executive branch faded when Kavanaugh worked for President George W. Bush and later as a legal scholar. Far from being a defender of U.S. v. Nixon, during that period Kavanaugh suggested in remarks during a roundtable discussion about executive privilege first reported on by The Associated Press that the case was possibly “wrongly decided” when it held that a president can be subject to a criminal subpoena of information by a special prosecutor. He said, “Nixon took away the power of the president to control information in the executive branch by holding that the courts had power and jurisdiction to order the president to disclose information in response to a subpoena sought by a subordinate executive official.”

In other words, a president should not have to answer to employees, including lawyers in the special counsel’s office.

A Supreme Court ruling based on this principle could severely hinder Mueller’s investigation of Trump. By rendering unconstitutional any attempt by Mueller to compel Trump to turn over incriminating evidence, such a ruling would make it nearly impossible to amass the information needed for a case against him. If Kavanaugh believes Mueller cannot subpoena evidence from a president, it is also likely that he believes he cannot require him or her to testify, further imperiling the investigation. This effective immunity from criminal investigation is exactly what defenders of a limited presidency should be worried about.

I just watched his exchange with Senator Coons of Nebraska and he must be your twin because that's what he focused on. Kavanaugh swatted his challenges away.
YouTube it and watch it

Swatted away... Heaven forbid he answers...Citing precedent over views expressed just a couple of years ago is not answering... but that's the game...    Coons kept it on track IMHO.

But hey... maybe I AM Sen. Coons (it's Delaware, btw).....

Mind... blown!

Everyone agrees he's a brilliant mind. Kagen the one on the Court now, hired him at Harvard. Garland is among his best friends. He started a woman and minority program that's been responsible for dozens getting opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't have.

But, this is what Democrats started with Bork. This is all their fault.

The outburst in the courtroom of those idiots is a perfect analogy of how the Dems were in the last election, angry and mean.

By the way, this is how you handle idiotic protesters.....

Yet the violence was only at trump rallies.  I didn't see hear Bernie say he'd pay someone's legal bills if they punched someone...

The difference is; violence is far closer to the mainstream Left than it is to the mainstream Right.
