This thread is about why Trump's supporters 'believe' his lies. Note that 'believe' is in scare quotes, meaning that it's not so much a question needing to be answered but an explanation for what may seem puzzling.

And it has been answered to my satisfaction in the article I linked to.

It was a question that has puzzled me, and the author put it with more clarity than I really wanted.

Trump supporters do not believe verbatim everything he says. We allow him a wide lane to roam around in because of people like you, like Sew, like TT. You hate, no you loathe, what we call average Americans. You make fun of, you laugh at, you think you're intellectually miles above. You're dumbstruck anyone would have a thought that there's a good likelihood of a higher being, you label someone bigoted if they question the need for one bathroom in a Target, that its not a given anyone can walk across our borders, you shouldn't be forced to bake a cake, that there's something wrong with Hilary, that its better to be feared abroad than liked, and a million other little things you do and say. Oh, and what you did to Kavanaugh.

Trump supporters, of which I count myself one, stand by him because you've directed your hatred and embarrassment of us on to him. And he's our sword to fight back.

We take him seriously but we don't believe everything he says. You don't take him seriously, but you believe everything he says.
