Well, if we could just fund the border wall we wouldn't have to send our military.

One of the reasons they are sent BEFORE they get there is to create the security that is now NOT in place.

Mexico offered asylum and they turned it down. The UN offered asylum in various places and they turned them down. They are not looking for asylum because they FEAR for their lives. They just want to come live here and you know what? That is OK, they just have to follow the procedures and do it legally but NO they do not get to come here and make any demands. Additionally it is not the responsibility of the American taxpayer to take care of them until they can come here legally.

PS: It is not just a few thousand illegals. It is estimated that the US currently has 20 Million at least. I think we should round them up and have military aircraft take them all to Australia. I hear that is a prosperous place.

A wall is a start. Immigration reform relies on enforcement which relies on the justice department which relies on the current administration. A wall doesn't buckle to the whims of the media.

Anyone who says a wall,  as a deterrent, is not worth it is kidding themselves. We all lock our doors, have fences with locking gates knowing full well the few determined thieves will still make it through.

And a recent Yale - MIT study (no conservative stronghold to be sure) put the number as high as 22 million and a Bloomberg report put it as high as 30 million. 10% of the population? I could see that being true easily.
