How Is This Not A Good Thing?

Making election day a holiday (like it is in many countries).

But the turtle calls it bad:

“Their bill would make election day a new paid holiday for government workers, and create an additional, brand-new, paid leave benefit for up to six days for any federal bureaucrat who decides they’d like to hang out at the polls during an election,”

Well turtle, aren't there republicans that would benefit also?  Aren't they the "hardest workers"?  I mean, a holiday for them to vote could be a boon... no?

SMH - these idiots like mitch the turtle just can't seem to find a good idea with both hands and a roadmap....(or should I say GPS?)
Cheesy

I wonder how the voting numbers would look after the first year. What if there was only a marginal increase in voter turnout? Do you think they would can it?

There was a time when employers would give a hour off to their employees to vote. That disappeared a while back. If you can't control the vote you control the people who vote.

A knowledge test about the candidates might help get good people in office.
I mean So many folks just vote the party line without knowing where the party platform is going .    Sometime I thing that Satan Himself could be in the line-up and the party line voters would still stick with the party line ! ...  Roll Eyes

Ed, up here we have drop off boxes, like mailboxes, and you can drop it off anytime up to the night of the election, which means you have weeks to vote, or the mailman can take it too....

How easy is that?

I don't think its the "system" but the person, and how do you change people to be more.....?????

I don't think so.  One year wouldn't be a very good benchmark.  I honestly think that it would increase voter turnout.  Both sides.

Well, the idiot we have as president now isn't satan... but he's not too far off that mark.    Cheesy

Edit - I'd add that to really make elections better over all - take the money out.  Most reps in Congress spend a majority of their time fundraising.  The bigger the donor, them more attention they get, the less the constituent is served.
