What do you put on your tomato sandwich? Mayo? Salt? Pepper?

Yes, yes, and yes. Sometimes bacon but it's not a BLT because I skip the lettuce.

I really like good vine ripened tomatoes, sliced about 3/8" thick, with mayo, salt, pepper, bacon & lettuce with good bread. Just the basics but the tomato must be plump with ripeness. You can smell the sweetness when you get your nose within 6" of it.
Yep.

Next question ---- does your wife take her own knife and tomato when going to Chic-fil-a to get a chicken sandwich?
Do you feel bad when she starts cutting and the scent hits the air and the surrounding people realize that they are eating cardboard tomatoes?
A really huge tomato can give up a couple of half inch thick slices that are actually bigger than the bread or the meat ...... messy but good, really really good.

I was at a brewery restaurant in San Diego a while back that did something like that. My burger had a thick slice of tomato same size as the patty. And they cut a similar slice of iceberg lettuce that fit the bun, too. It kept everything together without all that sliding that can happen between the condiments, veggies and bun.
I like
a lot
of crunch in my burgers and sandwiches from crisp veggies.

Fresh crab and avocado
Why do you pick you tomatoes so soon....?
I let mine stay on the vine till the last moment, but of course I only have 2 plants on my patio, they give me enough....

I just finished a ham and tomato sandwich on Italian bread with butter,... then came here and ... presto!...
What are the odds?...
PS... tear the bread open by hand, don't slice it with a knife. (why it tastes better that way, I have no idea)...

Gramma hooked me up with peanut butter and tomato sammiches when I was a kid.
Tomato goes on top, and the peanut butter doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth.
Ohhh, yeah...

Why take them early? They had skin split due to excessive rain swelling them after the skin had set, then it is a timing race to get them to ripen inside away from the gnats and flies before they start to rot.
A Split tomato's only pathway is to get scalded, peeled, chunked and then frozen in baggies, to be cooked long and slow in chili or tomato sauce / spaghetti sauce. A batch of splits always gets processed that way to keep any chance of tomato evil from occurring.
We stack them all up together so that special tomato gas they produce as they ripen can kick off all the others in the stack ......
We can ripen the entire lot inside 3 days using that old granny's trick.
