I just replaced the Rear Tire on the V-7II .   So I'm sharing information on how the old one did.
Now keep in mind : I usually beat what-ever is beside me away from any and all red lights .
I have been know to ride with the likes of Dave , Stew and the type on mountain roads.

So, your millage may vary .

here is a picture of a AM26 with 8,200 miles on it.

That seems less than impressive for pretty expensive tires.  Huh

I am slowly coming to the conclusion.......that I am going to have to accept that I will only get 6 - 8,000 miles out of my tires.  Some folks can get far more - but they ride far slower and are not scrubbing rubber off the tire when they corner.  I don't often break the speed limits or accelerate quickly....but I ignore the little yellow suggested speed signs when I corner and go around the curve at a brisk pace (while hopefully leaving some reserve for braking or steering if I need to avoid an obstacle or car in my lane).

On the bright side....it could be worse. I have friends that ride sport bikes very aggressively, and they can wear out a tire in a 5 day trip to the mountains....sometimes they mount 3 sets of tires a summer!  The tires they buy are very sticky and wear quickly.

If you want to play.......you have to pay! Wink

Never seen even a crotch rocket that didn't wear the center out first.
We either need harder centers or chewier outsides.
Maybe a candy maker could figure it out. Huh

Yea Bot , I'm thinking the lower price don't necessary mean less tire  !

When MM and I were at the Dragon earlier this year and I was getting a new tire, a couple fellows came in for tires and the rear had plenty of tread in the center.......but the sides were gone.  He rides the Dragon aggressively and scrubs lots of rubber off the sides.  (He and I should rotate tires and he can wear out the sides and I can wear out the center).

They do make sport touring and sport bike tires with a hard center compound and a soft side compound.  The sport touring tires are a bit harder than the sport versions.  When I use them they don't stay very rounded looking....the center gets a narrow flat spot and the sides wear in wide flat spots with a sharp angle where the soft and hard compounds meet.

MM does a very good job of wearing the back tires out evenly across the tread.....I never seem to be able to do that.  The only tire I know of that will fit MM's bike that is a multi compound is the Bridgestone Battlax BT45, and I am not too impressed with it as the front tire has a diamond pattern on the sides and it wears crooked and gets noisy in the turns.  The dual compound rear was evident on the one mounted on the Ninja 250 - both of them I had on the Savage Cafe never showed the hard/soft joint and wore the centers out at 6,000 miles.

That tire with the flat tread profile is not likely mounted on a rim and inflated.  It is hard to ride on them without rims or air!

When I rode a dual-sport I used to buy IRC GP-110 tires, specifically because the knobs overlap down the center, giving more rubber down the point of heaviest wear.
Other tires would not only wear out fast but the center knobs would become cupped creating a shuddering ride.

What I like about the Shinko 712, is the solid rubber down that center strip...  It's not an especially hard compound tire but at least the wear point has full rubber.
It's actually one of the lightest tires available so rubber is not as thick as say, Metzler,... but it's a lot cheaper and less unsprung weight.

Dave, you're just ticked off because you question my sincerity about my mourning the end of tiny pics and the resulting loss of your excellent posts.
