Scary and amazing.....

My wife bought us new phones.....online.
No need to visit a store to set them up, etc....crazy!

You just set your old phone next to your new phone, and follow a few prompts, and the new phones pulls all the data over to it....WTH????  Shocked Shocked

It took just minutes!

The face recognition technology is crazy too.

However, I don't think I am ready to use any of its credit buying apps, as I gotta believe all any crook needs to do is pass closely by your phone with their own reader to catch this information and use it to their own devious welfare....

Not sure if that is possible, but if a simpleton techno idiot like me can ponder it, I am sure they have ran with it.....

I can remember decades ago when I use to run DI water through all the cooling towers to the first data processing computers that use to take up a very sizable room....
This little phone is more powerful than those HUGE machines....mercy!

I have to believe this technology will take us to places that will be amazing, especially in medical sciences, but too, maybe places that we will wish we never ventured.....  Huh

It is a shame Garmin can't get a bit of that high tech "easy" incorporated into their GPS units.

My cell phone is so much easier to find a location.....or even a business, and then just hit "GO" to navigate.  My Garmin can never find a business by name, and very often it can't find a town/city by name.  I do however still prefer the Garmin as I can alter the routes by using "way points", and tell it to avoid highways and gravel roads....and most importantly it is waterproof!  (I did lose a 4 week old phone when it was in my jacket pocket while riding, and I rode into a rain storm).

However.......last week we had an older Garmin programmed to go to the Carter Caves State Park address, and it got us part of the way and then started running us around in an endless loop about 6 miles around....luckily the first time around I realized it as crazy and just started driving the route I knew would get us there.  The Garmin was complaining and trying to get us to go back onto the loop right up until we were 1/2 mile away from the campground entrance.  The cell phone navigation is far more accurate.

Good point, never thought about that.

I use Garmin in my boat. I drop my crab traps and push the man overboard button.....

I always find my traps later  Grin

I think it would be good for Garmin to re-allocate resources into user-interface design.  To get an "easy" product to interact accurately with a user is a complex and costly development task, but the rewards are very good.  This is why Apple sued Samsung, and won.  The development costs of getting the most efficient and enjoyable shape, design features and access to a product is high.  Too high to just have someone steal your casing mold that took 132 iterations and hundreds of focus/test groups to perfect.

I know many people who don't plan on updating or replacing traditional GPS units because their phones are so much easier.  That's a huge hit that Garmin will be taking over the next 20 years, as many future customers will have the competitor's product in their hands for as long as they can remember.

Durability and fitness branding will only get you so far, and it will get you nowhere if you can't even create a future customer base.
