Well , I'm at that point in life where I appreciate a little extra heat on those chilly days.
I found heated gloves after that finger thing , they get cold and painful a lot easier now.
This year I ordered a heated Vest .   I had no idea what I had been missing !!!  
So after trying the Vest , I've ordered some long johns with heat behind both knees and in the rear of the waist band.  
All this gear runs on USB battery packs .    The vest will run about 6 hours (med.-heat) on a 10,000ma  pack that fits in the zippered pocket on the inside of the vest.

Be aware ... Size 3X Asian is = to Size "L" American , 4X Asian = 1X American .  

The vest gets so hot on High ... that I can't stand it but a few minutes , on Low I'm warm but forget I'm wearing it.

The first one I bought was a 1X Asian , I'm 200 lbs and 5'10" with a 44" chest   the 1X lacked 6" meeting in the front   .   The "L" asian might equate to an american men's size small.

Clothing for riding your motorcycle can be affordable......or really expensive.  I tend to buy stuff on the low end - but not on the very bottom.  My summer mesh jacket was $160 and my jackets with liners were around $250 each.  While I was working full time I was not able to get more than 2 or 3 thousand miles of riding done each year.....so I was only riding about 100 hours a year.  My RevIt jacket held up pretty well - about half the little plastic snaps that hold the liner to the outer shell have pulled out of the fabric.  On my Joe Rocket textile Jacket everything is holding up physically - but the red fabric is now "Salmon" colored on the upper surfaces where the sun has faded the red fabric.

I have a friend that bought a jacket and pants from Klim, and you can spend $1,700 on a jacket and $700 on pants!  (I am not sure what model he bought or paid).  He bought the Klim gear as he and his wife would be riding in Europe for 6 weeks straight - and he needed something that he could count on to keep him warm and dry and it had to be reliable.  The Klim gear did what it was supposed to do and is holding up really well for him.

It is my belief that you do get what you pay for in most instances, and if you need something that you know is reliable you likely should buy the name brand and proven equipment.  If you are just doing day rides and you can make it home pretty quickly if you stuff fails - then looking for a bargain might work out for you.

Before the November ride that Stew and I took to TN/NC last year - I bought a Milwaukee heated vest.  The jacket itself is not all that expensive - but with the battery and charger it is close to $300 now.  One battery works about 6 hours on the low setting, and with a good jacket I have found I only need the low setting.  While riding you really can't feel the heat - but when you stop you can feel the warmth......and I know the heat is working to keep me warm and I have never felt the need for the higher settings if you have warm clothes over the vest.  I have worn it while skiing in a blizzard in Utah when it was 2 degrees, and I stayed warm (except my fingers).  The kit comes with a 1.5 amp/hr battery - but I bought a Chinese copy battery to extend my range that claims to be 2.5 amp/hr really cheaply - and it seems to work just fine.  (If you already have a Milwaukee M12 battery charger or can find a used one on Ebay.....that would help cut the cost).

I am anxious to see how well the vest MMRanch bought holds up - it is certainly a bargain price.
