My good friend raced an SR500, which I did stupid amounts of work on. Good news is that the motor can produce much more power than a Savage. At 560cc with a lot of cool parts, we had 52 HP at the rear wheel. And there are 600cc kits out there. Bad news is that its a non-counterbalanced single. Shakes like hell. Prob why the frame is more butch. And it's a dry sump motor, so more plumbing. also, kick start only, which gets old with a kick only high compression single. The SR starts out much heavier than the Savage, and I doubt you could get one down to 300 lbs like a heavily breathed on Savage. But the wheels are more normal size and the chassis geometry is basically Standard, so you can make a cafe racer a bit easier. Chose the Savage for the weight, counterbalancer, E-start, and the belt drive. Target HP is 40, well shy of the 52 we had on our SR. In the end, smooth and light was more important to me.
