My fellow Savages,

Thank you all for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers for me and my family during this time.  It goes without saying, but this is the most difficult thing I have had to endure in 46 years of life on this earth. My baby sister was in the prime of her life with so many things going for her (graduating, new job, new (to them) house, not too far from getting married...I could go on...), and it was an unfortunate set of circumstances that resulted in an accident that took her from us.

As noted in her obituary, her classmates and nursing school have established a scholarship in her name to continue her legacy, the Sarah E. Mills Scholarship.  Donations to this scholarship are not placed in a general fund, rather committed solely to this scholarship of which our family will be involved in setting the criteria for the scholarship and hopefully involved in the applicant review and interview processes as well.  Donations are tax deductible and all amounts are incredibly appreciated.

If you would like to be a part of Sarah's legacy and are led to do so:
(1) Please visit http://aum.edu/giving/ways-to-give.
(2) For online giving, choose the Give online now link.
(3) Under I want my gift to support, next to the box labeled "Other", write "Sarah E. Mills Scholarship".

Feel free to note you are a forum friend in the "Employer Name" so I can share with my family how cool you guys are Wink

Instructions are listed for other types of donation methods.

Thanks again for all of the support. We are slowly getting back into the swing of things and learning how to manage this new reality.

Hey gang! Just a friendly update and Thank You on behalf of myself and the family to those of you that were able to contribute to Sarah's scholarship. We have a couple of things being finalized right now, but with everyone's support it looks like we will hit the endowment mark (in dollars) in the next week or so! What this means is there were significant enough contributions where the scholarship in Sarah's name will be in place at her school in perpetuity, not until the money runs out per se.  I know people that have had similar events and it took them 3-5 years to reach the endowment mark, so this is without a doubt a heartwarming feeling to know that Sarah touched so many people and that those that did and did not know her personally were led to keep her legacy alive.

It is hard to believe it has been ~7 weeks now and and we are learning to cope, but things like this are helping us find the good in the situation and have something positive to focus on.

Life gets the best of us sometimes and we are all human, we get in a rush, we bicker with family and siblings..but don't hold grudges or leave a conversation on an unhealthy note or hesitate to tell those around you what they mean to you.  You never know when that may be the last conversation you get to have.  Thankfully we were all a big happy crazy family and our worlds were all in a great place at the time.   I am thankful that the last time I spoke to Sarah a few days prior, all be it brief, I commented how proud I was of my little sister for doing the things she was doing, then we both had to get on with our day and that was that.

Thanks again!
Stew
