Help please

Can anyone help please?
I am currently rebuilding my LS650, I have removed the cam chain tensioner assembly, and found a very small spring on my work bench which looks identical to the very small spring at the bottom in the diagram below.

Can anyone advise where this has come from, and where it fits in the assembly please?

Thanks Andrew

It is the spring that pushes the pawl on the ratchet.

As the big spring pushes the tensioner out.....the little spring is pushing the ratchet that engages teeth and prevents the tensioner from moving back in.

In the photo you posted...the little spring is very near the hole it would go into......beneath the little ratchet arm.

Now is your chance to modify the tensioner and make your chain last bunches longer.

Look-up "The Versey mod" , also the big spring (spring wire too big) is way to much spring to be loading the chain tentioner with.   I'm approaching 50,000 miles on the original cam chain by using about halve the spring-wire size , and its a good mod.

I hope you don't have things back together yet ?   I wouldn't run it without that little spring in place !   Tongue

this might work ?

This is the preservable "Stitch in time" ,

If the ratchet keeps the plunger from backing-up ... then what's with the strong spring shoving it out super tight  , then ? won't the tentioner wear out soon enough with only light pressure on it   Huh  ???
