Sidecar Update

The Sidecar is mounted and I actually took it for a spin 😀 it actually handled pretty good. Heavy steering but not bad. It rolls nice and is easy to move around.

A few things to clean up and adjust but it will be going into storage until spring as I Have a ton of other work to do before winter. My brand new exhaust baffle blew out while I was warming it up 😳

I’ve heard a lot of people who have said the fork rake might be a problem. Not sure why. Most sidecar and trike builders sell rake kits to make steering EASIER. I think the rake is a good thing as long as the wheel lead is set properly. The heavy steering I’m feeling right now is related to toe in. I needed to get the rig on flat ground to adjust

Steering damper is pretty common on sidecars and trikes. There is a problem with wobble at slow speed when taking off. The damper cleans that up.

I own a 2017 Boulevard S40

Like to know more about this bike/kit/year/etc.

The sidecar is a 2004 Cozy that was on a Royal Enfield that was lost in my shop fire. I bought the 2011 S40 specifically for the sidecar because it was made for a Thumper and I wanted to put it back on the road.😀 I fabricated the mount and used some of the RE parts and some purchased.

Cool!

You might like the way it handles with a set of wider bars. The bike steers so much easier at slow speeds with them. I have used a set of EMGO "super bars" that worked well and currently have a set of LSL flat tracker bars that I love. Of course you'll need to get standard risers to go that route. An added bonus is that they will make the bike look a little more "RE" than the stock drag bars and fit right in with the beautiful paint scheme your bike has.

Here is my modified bike with the LSL flat trackers. I'm guessing they are about as tall as the stock drag bars.

This is my bike with the "super bars". They sit lower and bring you more forward. The forks are lowered 2" and I have an 18" rear wheel on it. I though it handled a lot better than stock and at 6'3" the bars were comfortable for me.
