WANTED! Solution for mounting front fender
02/28/21 at 04:52:47
hey everybody, I have a simple, short raw aluminum front fender I’m looking to mount as flush with the tire as possible. I’ve searched all over, and have not been able to find any product for our bikes made for this purpose.
I’ve attached a picture of the fender. It barely covers the width of the stock front tire.
Does anybody make - or can anybody make - an aluminum type of loop that looks like a fork brace, but can be adapted to hold a fender? Or does anybody sell a fabrication kit for steel arms and bungs to mount it to?
This has been really frustrating. I found a cool product for Honda rebels (see attached pic) but I’m afraid the mounting points on rebel forks are wider than ours (ours are very narrow, about 1.25” apart).
Any hep is greatly appreciated!!!!

Here’s the fender.

I cut the inner brace out of a stock fender. It was a bit of a chore getting it cut out of the fender - but easier than trying to build something. I have a spot weld cutter that is used with a drill, and that helped to get the spot welds cut without damaging the brace.
I mounted my fender under the brace as I have an 18" wheel with a small 90/90-18 tire. If you are using the stock 19" wheel, you most likely would have to mount the fender on top of the brace like the stock fender.

Once the rust was removed and it was cleaned up - I powder coated it with single stage chrome.

You might also try getting a fork brace, and mounting the fender to the bottom side of the brace.

Thanks for all your advice, Dave! I thought about the fork brace, but the majority of the ones that seem to fit I find rather ugly. And my worry is that the fender will sit too high, with out having to add a bunch of spacers - which would look pretty ugly.
I think your first idea - using a stock fender brace and mounting the fender on top - might work best. Fenders go for cheap on eBay ... just not sure I have the know-how to remove the brace!

Let me look and see if I have another stock front fender to cut up.

Today’s experiment. 1/8” aluminum stock, unpainted aluminum fender from ebay, and some measuring, drilling, and stainless Allen bolts with rubber washers and lock nuts.

That's a really small fender. The flares look good on it.
Dave what shocks are you using?

The shocks are the RFY shocks from China that are listed on eBay.

That looks fine......I think if you could cut an opening in the side to make it look lighter and less bulky - it would be more attractive.
