Silly folks ,

Who would buy a car that uses 80L of high test per mile?   Tongue

Thats like 20 gallons per mile .

We had tanks in the 1970's Army that used about 2 gallons per mile and I thought that was bad.  Roll Eyes

..............

Dave , don't forget the ear plugs , if the exhaust can supply 2000 pounds of thrust it must REALLY be LOUD !   Smiley

Enjoyed the show !  Wink

What's pretty amazing is you live in the heart of Top Fuel country and you've never been to an NHRA or IHRA event.  Don't forget Top Fuel motorcycles.  Those reside in your neck of the woods too.  The old AHDRA was headquartered just to the east in NC.  The fuel bikes may not be as impressive as the rails, but they are plenty cool.  Go see some drag racin next summer.  It's awesome.  Chest crushing sound.  Literally makes your lips flop around when they hit the gas.  No recording can do it justice.

BTW, thanks for the link.  It's excellent.  I'm savin it.

It is a feeling that can't be described.  Seeing a top fuel dragster or funny car run in person is AMAZING!  I was in So Cal for many years, so I attended the Pomona races several times.  Super fun to watch a first timer's reactions when they light one of those off. I have always been a huge motorsports fan - if it has a motor, I am into it.  Cars, boats, aircraft, motorcycles, karts...  you name it.  More than all of that I am a F1 fan.  I really miss the 90's in F1.  Screaming V12's and 10's.  Not looking forward to next years rule changes.  This hybrid era has already got me down.

CART Indy cars used to come to Cleveland.

There was a grassy area away from the grandstands were two cement barriers and fencing separating you from the track and you could get pretty close to turns 9 & 10.   You couldn't see much because the trackside walls were probably 5 ft tall and you were probably 20-30 feet from the track behind 4 ft tall wall.  Nobody would go there because you really couldn't see much, but one day me and a friend stood there for a hour and it was incredible.

As they came into turn 9, the tires would skid and bounce at a high frequency during braking.  Almost like when airliners touchdown on a runway but with a deep sound.  The ground would shake like an earthquake as this happened.  On the first lap it was like some oversized train was rumbling past you.  Once the cars spread out a bit it was clear what was happening.

As they exited turn 10, the transmission shifts were so violent you could feel them through your feet.  Like someone was dropping bowling balls on cement at your feet.  That little pop you hear on TV sounds like a head on collision when you are that close.

The forces and sounds were incredibly violent at that distance. It's truly amazing. As TheSneeze pointed out, it really can't be described...but I tried!  Smiley
