The ubiquitous Now Hiring signs in Longview had me confused. My SIL is a UPS driver and knows people all over the place and I asked him what he thought was the reason restaurants and auto parts and so many other places were needing people. He said the Dollar General distribution center was The current reason. He said they were paying fifteen bucks an hour to start and good benefits and vacation. And went on to say it is Goin to get worse, because Gap are building an approximately 850,000 square foot center in our recently built Industrial Park. If I had the ability I'd be building an apartment complex and storage facility and try to get Buccees store put in. If you have never heard of them, look them up. They have a kiosk to order food and drink, pay with your card, wait for your number. Decent quality, reasonable prices and they have ready made sammiches and Clean, attractive stores. In Galveston they have a sign above the door with job titles, starting pay and what you can earn in that job with time. They pay well, especially compared with other convenience store/gas stations. And yeah, it comes with expectations of excellence. Walking down the aisle coming from the restroom you better be looking at the stock on the shelves, fronting it up or heading back to get product to put on the shelf. Fail to be that employee a coupla times and Out the Door.. What you look like, don't matter. Tats and green and purple hair? Cool. Do The Job and you are golden. Treat the customers Right, golden.. IDK where they are,, but I think they started down around Galveston.
Is the Help Wanted sign widespread where you are? Any idea why employers are having trouble getting enough people to work?
