Close call!
06/21/22 at 07:55:57

I had a bit of a close call last night. I thought I would share the experience. I was on my way home from work, a block and a half from the house and a squirrel ran out in front of me. I was doing 20 maybe 25 mph max and I braked hard. I missed the squirrel by maybe 2 inches. But as soon as it passed I realized what would have happened to me if I had hit it. The front tire would have locked up and slid and I would most likely have gone down. The thought was a bit scary. I will not brake hard for a squirrel again and will not use the front brake if I brake at all. For me this was a bike riding lesson and hopefully it will make you aware of a scenario that you've never considered before.

Thinking of going squirrel hunting! Angry Shocked

Squirrels are way quicker than we are, maintain heading and maybe let off the throttle slightly and allow them to dodge you.

Tune your bike to grumble pop on decel
then you won't have to dodge squirrels, just laugh as the squirrel is propelled across the street by a brown rocket plume.

try not to fall over while lyao

OK, don't laugh too hard and don't brake for them. Works for me. Grin

IDK what happened, but I tried to reply,, Ohh Well,, I'll give it another go..

I wanted to ride and explore the dirt roads south of Sierra Blanca Texas. The ride to the rig went by a few roads, and I wanted to see what was out there besides cattle. The sand had me concerned, so I asked my friend how to navigate that.

Scoot back accelerate, says he. It works. If you're on the brakes when you hit a wheel chock with a pulse, you might be in trouble. I wouldn't wanna hit an armadillo with the brakes on. I'd be inclined to step on the shifter and goose it as I slid back and yanked on it.

To try to train yourself, when you go to bed, play that situation in your head and imagine your correct response, over and over. It works. It did for me. Not exactly that scenario, but others.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.
