This actually happens almost every year. The launching a mortar from the head thing seems to be a regular occurrence. it doesn't always make the news, I know it happened last year in CO.

Yeah something like that. Maybe it cracked the skull, maybe not. But blast alone can kill without penetration.

The guy in CO last year didn't break apart his skull but the concussive blast ruptured blood vessels and he technically bled to death internally.
