A stand to keep the bike upright?
08/20/22 at 14:08:33
A bit of a noob question, but I am looking for some kind of a stand that will securely keep my bike upright, so I can check oil level and whatnot. Need something that isn't too bulky, but secure at the same time. This is both for my S40 and Star 950, so something that can accommodate a smaller and a larger bike.

If you got jackstands, 1 under the right foot peg and 1 under the left engine bolt works great.
but if you're just checking oil, then a 2x4 under the sidestand is vertical enough.

I actually have a piece of 2.5" aluminum tube that I use under the jackstand, its almost vertical, but I'm looking for something to secure the bike. I down have a set of jackstands, but is there a device that hassle free?

Roll-on wheel chock. I use them for bikes without center stands.

Harbor Freight
I use tie-downs to stabilize the bike and a floor jack to lift the front or rear wheel when needed.

I made one from the plan I saw in the tech pages. You're supposed to use a 4x8' board. I used two pieces of 2x8", glued and screwed, then drilled a 1" hole for the piece of conduit and put a floor flange on it upside down. Eight inches is high enough to let the bike sit nearly level. My wooden piece is 4 feet long, and I put screw eyes in the ends so I can stabilize it side to side with a couple of tie downs. Works well. Costs maybe $35 USD. I have a small garage and didn't want to have to store a bike lift. (I don't know about the 950.)

i have a orion motor tech motorcycle lift i got off amazon a few years ago and it works fine and should handle the weight of both bikes fine. the t-handle comes off and i just use my electric drill to raise/lower it.

You would have to take some measurements and do some research. You might get lucky, but I wouldn't buy it before I confirmed the specs on it.
