unfortunately... metal doesn't float.
so you need something that will carry the bits down to the drain.
oil is the stuff that's made to do the job.
I got a pump that will pick it up, filter it and direct it where it'll do some good.
stick a magnet in the drain and pull the bits out.

If you're going to be spraying a lot of that stuff, have a fan blowing it away from you.
I have a painters mask,with replaceable filter elements, about thirty bucks. I can't tolerate those sprays,

If you still have the sides off, I'd shoot it with parts cleaner. You should be able to rinse about everything you can see with two cans,right?
IDK how much junk you found in the oil. You are the only one who can see it.
Gotta ask yourself how much is hiding in the transmission? Can you shoot that area? I've never had both sides off.

Maybe slapping the sides on, dumping diesel in , no spark plug, use the rear wheel to spin it over a few times, if a chunk is in the gears it otta shut you down.
Shake it, roll forward and back. Drain into a clean pan.
Rinse and repeat as needed.

I'm just shooting in the dark never done this, if someone has a tried and true system, please, share.

I would have a oil drain plug with a magnet in it before it hits the road.
You know what it takes to get stuff rinsed out. If it's downhill, it's not coming out. If the transmission is not above the flat of the bottom of the case, whatever is in there will stay in there until you work it out. I don't remember what it looks like.
I'd do what I could with the spray can, slap the sides on, it's okay if they ooze a little, I'd fill it up with diesel, no spark plug, if you have to hoist the rear wheel to make the transmission flush into the front, hoist it, spin the tire,in gear.

Drain into a clean pan
Maybe through a piece of t shirt
See what you get.

If you don't pollute the diesel you can rerun it.

Flush,till you stop getting junk.
Pull the sides, inspect,clean.

It's like getting out of a wet swimming suit. No instructions, you start going at it and you just keep working till you get it.

I counted them all and have all of them. But I am not confident that I have all the fragments that were chipped away. That's why I need a good way to flush it.
