The vacuum chamber is the trick, and from what I've seen the launch tube is kind of a sally-port system where the rear door closes as the projectile is still in the tube and then it breaks through the outer door film, or a series of baffles. This might have changed by now though.

The bearings are lubricated with the juice from minced baby-whales and the electricity is from hydroelectric motors fully powered by the tears from the baby whale's mothers.
