I'm trying to track down a noise that is slower than engine rpms. I've got a windshield that can reflect/amplify noise. Doesn't affect acceleration, hard to describe, kind of a scape scrape sound, that increases with speed. Bike has 3300 miles. thank you!

You should probably wrap something over where it hooks up and I guess pull the cable so it doesn't get away. It's been a few years since I unscrewed one. Oh,there is an oring that you don't want to lose. Seems they tend to fall toward the starter and hide back there, be prepared.
I'd be inclined to wrap something over both sides. Dirt has no business in either end.
