Future Sportsters will have overhead cams, like the Sportster S. I am in favor of innovation and progress. I bought a used 2003 Sportster that had been modified to an 1100. It sounded beautiful and ran and handled great. When I traded it in on a Dyna Wide Glide, he took money off due to rocker box leakage. My used 2004 Dyna was a beast that also sounded great and had great acceleration. I never cared for the handling due to that raked fork. It also developed an oil leak that I misdiagnosed and the idiot shop I bought it from also misdiagnosed, accepting my word on what *I* thought the problem was, taking my money and fixing nothing. I loved my Harleys, but I never bought new due to them being overpriced. The old ones leaked more than Japanese bikes of the same age would have. Yes, I realize rubber and other types of seals don't last forever. There's something about Harleys and oil leaks, however (and old Volkswagens). It's sad to see the old lineage dry up, but the young buyers won't know or care anyway. I'd love to have a barn with every bike I ever bought still in it, and the time and money to fix all the age-related issues. That was just never possible for me.

Every year I walked away wondering why my tushy was saying 'no way' ! Why could HD not get a softer suspension ? I've had two of them :

2004 XL1200 ROADSTER

2007 XL883

I modified them both with the 4.5 gallon tank and forward pegs .. I liked them ... sort-of ... Undecided

They were to heavy for "Great-Handling" , but sounded GREAT !!

Both lasted - not long enough before troubles arose .
The 1200 striped the crank-shaft splines from trying to keep up with those "Dern-Little-Savages" ! Grin

The 883 started "Weeping" oil about 45000 miles and got nasty to keep up. Embarrassed

Well now that they discontinued I may have to keep it and biuld it. That pic is a little off in color , kinda reddish mine is straight Harley orange n black. Guess it depends on when. Next bike on deck/table will be a 70/71 BSA 500 flat tracker , Oh Yeah ! I had it close once in the last 35 years but life has side stepped this bike somehow. Found a electronic ignition for it too. I gotta find me a painter to paint the bodywork that don’t take years and hold my stuff hostage. Scary that Lodi Cycle Bowl is about 30 min. up the road a ways. It will make it look realistic with some Lodi clay on it. The guy I bought it from had a box of trophies he won on the bike.

They just keep on chugging down the road.

Unfortunately, Yamaha has announced the end of the SR’s production as well. I don’t honestly know which one I’m more sad about, the Sportster or the SR.
