When I was building the head for my current project - I built another one at the same time for a spare. I don't really need a spare as they seem to be pretty reliable - so I will give you an option to buy this head.
This head came from a parts engine I bought - and just like the used heads on eBay - you are not really sure what you are going to get for your money. This head was in good shape - however the rockers were the old style and had wear on them, and the exhaust valves had some pits in them. I cleaned the head and stripped off the paint, then proceeded to port the intake and exhaust to the shape recommended by DragBikeMike with a "D" shaped exhaust port. Then the head was glass bead blasted to provide a bonding surface for the PJ1 Satin Engine paint. The head was then put in the lathe and it took about 0.0015" of machining to make the head flat. The valves were then lapped in and installed with new Viton seals. "New" parts include exhaust valves $165.14, Cam sealing cap $6.59, Exhaust gasket $7.09, Valve inspection O rings $7.12, O-ring for oil passage at head $1.97, Viton Valve Seals $15.59, Rocker Arm shaft O-ring $3.51, sealing washers for head cover screws $9.50, Compression release shaft seal $ 7.38, Intake Rocker Arm $76.55, Exhaust Rocker Arm $76.55 and a Verslagen Head Plug. In total there is $408.54 of new parts in this head!
I also had all the head cover screws and compression release hardware plated.....I believe this cost me about $40 for each set of engine hardware I had plated.
