MM: tell us about your Meteor and why I should buy one ! Apart from the tubeless tires, isn't a used S40 a better deal? .................
Well : Ya can't get a fuel injected new Savage , but the LS650 is 1/3 more powerful than the RE350cc group.
The 350cc RE's are not a bike for "Hoodlums" . They are not hot rods by any means.
I've had two 4 wheel vehicles that are a lot like the RE350's
1. A 1966 Ford Falcon convertible with the 160 CI engine.
2. A 1984 Chevy S-10 with the 2500cc engine
The RE350 will run up hills in high gear better than either one of the above 4-wheelers.
Referring to the Meteor ,I always get 75+ mpg (Putt Putting = 90) and its super easy to ride.
1. I bought it new for the price of a good used bike .
2. It came with a 3 year unlimited millage warrantee.
3. It's got Gearing (like the LS650) for 94mph but only Power (RE-350)
for 80 mph , and a Speed-Limiter set at 74mph. The Hunter does NOT
have the Speed limiter.
4. Its an Under-Bore (72mm X 86mm) , max pulling power is at 4k-rpm -
like the LS650 is . HP and Torque numbers are the same. That's Rare!
5. It's got a super heavy Fly-Wheel , Spin it up to 3k-rpm --- Drop the
clutch , and up comes the front end , keep the fuel open and away you
go ! 1st gear is good for 25-30mph .
6. It's NOT an Interstate Bike ,but short local 75mph runs are no
problem.
7. Two valves per cylinder easy maintenance. (every 6k-miles)
The "Overall" feel of the bike is like a modern version of the LS650
Suzuki ! Did I mention the Great MPG and a 3.8 gallon tank , fuel
gauge , two trip sets ,ABS brakes and built in GPS (Tripper) ?
But the LS650 will R-u-n-n-o-f-t and leave it with out even trying --- on a drag race.
All that said : The Meteor IMHO - is as good or maybe the best Commuter bike I've ever had , even better than the LS650.
I don't need to be running around like my Hair is on Fire any more ' so the 2/3 power is enough for my humble needs. If The Hunter had of been available last summer I would have got it and put 60/40 Dual Sport tires on it , Then left it naked - except a luggage rack w/soft bag.
Picture in your head , ridding in a 1960-70's in-line 6 cylinder Pick-up truck with the windows down , going to town for an errand ! Ya really wouldn't drive it across the country ... but you could if ya needed too
