So Skinko tires is now making flat track racing tires. Not a lot of sizes yet  but they do come in 3 compounds soft , med , hard. Similar to the Dunlops but cheaper. Mostly 19” , but they do have some 18” too. Don’t think it’s dot rated , so it’s a track tire. Those tires are gonna make the BSA look like a Vanvan , they look big. I’m gonna mount the front one , see how it looks.

Good old Stinko.  Why would you want a hard flat track tire?

How dare you put air in it.

Oh, I wasn't thinking about dirt tracks.  Oops.

Back in the old days I had a little sports car that I used to autocross.  I mounted some Goodyear Blue Streak race tires on it and drove them on the street.....they were not DOT approved.

They worked fine for the little bit of driving I did - it was a fast and fun little car to take on joy rides on a sunny day.  I would sometimes drive 100 miles to get to a car show - but that was as far as it went and I didn't rack up thousands of miles on the street.  When autocrossing the car I used slicks and was trailered to the event.

You may not have the same issue with flat track tires - but all my buddies with road racking experience warn not to use road race tires on the street.  The carcass is really light and they are not very resistant to punctures from road debris.....my Goodyear Blue Streaks weight half what a DOT tires weighs.  Race tires can also be very slippery until they get hot....and road riding doesn't work them hard enough to stay hot enough for good traction (that may not be true for flat track tires and compounds).

Not sure but Goodyear made the tread design , but for a time they used them as a “Rain” tire  for the World GP. In the GP they race in the rain , I think they race in any weather conditions. Easy tires to mount , so soft sidewall. They are huge but once on rim , not much bigger than that rotten Carlisle. I’m interested to see if the rear one fits in the swing arm and clear the chain. The front mounted is almost as tall as a mounted 21” enduro tire.
The BSA is not a big bike and the tires are tall it’s going to be interesting to look at. While I’m just puttin it back together , I’m staying true to keep it a vintage racer , but it’s gonna be race ready too. I would love to ride some TTs on it but we will see what the hip thinks about it. I might start hangin  out at the track after I retire. A good way to spend Friday nights. I think with some practice laps I’ll find out what I’ve been missing all these years. I quit racing to raise a family , I always say “ life gets in the way of building bikes” ! It’s time to play , almost ! My leathers shrunk , I need some leathers. If you’re young and have kids , it about a 30-35 yr layoff from racing. I really just want to ride the track and not race but that will all go by the wayside after the first time I get passed  Grin

Just went out and checked it , that “new” inner tube has gone totally flat 3 times. That’s why you ALWAYS air up the inner tube BEFORE installing. It helps new tube to get it’s shape after being folded up in a box.

New plan is Skinko 130/80 was on the front , now going to the rear , the Skinko 140/80 is going back and got a Dunlop 100/90 on order. I was using manufacturer’s tire size/rim size chart and yeah I know better but had to try. It might fit the rim doesn’t mean it fits the bike.

Sent back the 140/80-19 Shrinko. Both of those are better suited for a twin rather than a vintage single. So the 130/80 going to the rear and put a Dunlop K180 100/90 and it’s a tad smaller than I like but I’m runnin it. I’m getting good at changing tires after all these years. If you do your own tires you have got to get one of these , Motion-Pro Bead Buddy 2. No more wishing you had a third arm , slide it over the rim slide it over a spoke , after that it’s one hand , one lever , Done. Wish I had one 40 years ago. Bead Buddy only for Spoked wheels.
