So how are things in Southern Calf ?

So yesterday I took a ride to the next town over here in Southern middle Tn. like I usually do. A ride to the planet fitness just to stay in shape , missing a day is not good.
That evolved wearing boots , long johns-reg pants-rain pants , long sleeve "T-shirt"-leather coat zipped to the neck w/face mask tucked into it , and heated gloves. No heated vest ...yet
I'll probably do the same today too , but
I can't help but wonder ... "How are things in Southern Calf " ?

It varies, cold mornings (don't laugh you yankies) and pleasant afternoons.
So depending on when you go, just layer up and go.

The last week here it has been in the teens and twenties in the morning. Sometimes I miss So Ca. Most of the time I do not.

I was hoping to ride today because it really is a beautiful sunny day. The only problem is that it was still in the upper 30's at 8 am. So I wimped out.
We'll see how tomorrow fares.

The outer layer has to be wind proof and somewhere inside that shell has to be some kind of a blood warmer. Those 5 volt battery pack heated vest are cheep on ebay ... but a size 4X Asian = size 1X American.
Dang ... it's coming up on noon again !
It was 29 degrees at my house this morning , but sunny !!

48 Here
We have had a record October here, never before has there been so much rain as this month. There are now puddles where I have never seen them before and the earth is saturated. I have a very short rear mudguard so I haven't been on the bike much I'm a real dry weather rider (I'm not allowed to get wet)

I'm not mentally ready for winter yet . It seems like the summer flew by way to fast and now the ridding is restricted to the middle of the day stuff.
We didn't get to gather for a midsummer week in 2023 , those times help the winters seem not so bad for me anyways ?
The 50ish HP / mid weight bike I was waiting on never showed up this year ... maybe next year ?
Maybe , we'll get to gather for a mid summer ride in 2024 ?
Weather permitting that is ?

We are in the transition period to being permanently cold.
Mornings here are near freezing most days....afternoons can be in the 40's and sometimes high 60's.
Afternoon rides are possible on the dry days....if you dress for and aren't planning on being out too long.
Once the winter sets in it won't be reliable riding weather again until April. There may be some days you can ride in March - but it tends to be cold overnight and a very wet month around here. Reliable weather for planning trips doesn't come until May.

Dave , I can see where you might need a winter project , Not that I have one either ... well ... maybe ?
We're still working on Anders's house , but its to the wiring and plumbing stage now. I guess getting son's house to a living condition is my project of the year for 2023 .
The weather was nice enough today for a nice long ride but we spent the day getting and putting in the electric panel and then some plug-in boxes
.,joy joy joy

Upper 60's this morning. 84 F right now (2 pm). But the chill is coming back on Friday.
I'm curious MM, what bike are you waiting on?
