It looks like Mad Hamish is enjoying the swim !

The idea of a good dusty back road followed by a nice swim in the sun helps the winter month pass by.   Cool

We had a very nice week here in KY, and I got a lot of outside work done and a couple of rides to relax - but it appears the winter weather has arrived.

The coming 10 day forecast shows temps in the 30's at night and 40's in the daytime.....next Thursday will be 20 at night with a high of 37!
Sad

I guess it is time to fire up the outdoor wood furnace and start sacrificing my wood supply!

Sounds like the good-old gang is coming to Texas!  Y'all should have a great time.  Are y'all gunna ride the Twisted Sisters while in the area?  There is the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum near Vanderpool if you venture that way.

I don't want to invite myself, but I'm in Houston and might make a day trip that way and try to track you guy down and say hello.  If I do, I'll be on my Honda Shadow Spirit and Woody will just have stay home.

You've got to be kidding me. You have a Savage and a Honda Shadow Spirit. Those are the same 2 bikes I have. You have good taste! Cool

I'm sure all the guys would like to meet you. Consider joining us for the week.

Ha!  Thanks Springman.  It would be nice to actually meet these great people that have tolerated me on the forum and been so helpful and kind!

Cool we have the same bikes.  Are you in Houston (more specifically and coincidentally the Spring area perhaps - Springman??)?  I'm on the NW side in the Cypress area.

If I make the trip, it would be a 1-nighter probably during mid week.  I said day trip, but I don't think my old butt and back can handle 4 hours there and 4 hours back home in the saddle in one day.

Yep, I'm in spring just north of the airport. And yep again, going to Kerville and back in one day is not something I would recommend. And yes, all these guys are really good people and extremely knowledgeable on the Savage. I think every last one of these guys has helped me in one way or another with my S40. Well, if you decide to join us if even for just a day I'm sure you will have a great time.

The solo trip to/from Kerrville on a motorcycle may not be the fun part of the adventure.  I am one that doesn't enjoy motoring down a big highway at 70mph surrounded by cars and trucks - so I haul the motorcycle to the place where the magic happens!

If you have a truck or trailer - perhaps you would be better off by hauling the bike up to Kerrville and then riding the bike on a day ride with us.

When Deb and I were in Texas in 2022, we did a few side trips when we were not riding with Youzguyz.

We were staying in Centerpoint, and we discovered the cemetery in town had more Texas Rangers buried there than any other place in Texas.  Once the number of Rangers buried there started to grow - other Rangers chose it as their final resting place so they could be with their peers.  It was a short walk to the cemetery from the little cabin we had rented, and we went for a visit.  It was a bit surprising to find that most of them died of old age.....and it was amazing how old some of them were - they seemed to be pretty tough and durable!

Just a bit farther down the road is Camp Verde - which was home to the Camel Corp experiment of the Federal Government.  The funny thing was that when the Civil War broke out the Federal troops turned the camels loose - and local folks started seeing these unfamiliar animals roaming around in the desert!

Yes, the Three Twisted Sisters will definitely be a part of the agenda.  As will many other fine roads, (including the search for U R Lost.. again).   Maybe a trip to Oz.. if it is still there.

There is a "new" motorcycle museum in Johnson City that is better than the one in Vanderpool (my opinion).  Very nice and knowledgeable owner.

Bring whichever bike that you want.  On the original Hill Country meetup, it was all Savages.  We were much younger then...  Roll Eyes
Times change, and some change motorcycles, or add new ones.

I will now formally invite you!!
Come for a day or stay all week.  If we know which day(s) you can make it, and where you want to go, we could probably adjust the agenda so it lines up.

Camp Verde is interesting, but a bit of a tourist place, kind of like Luckenbach, but without a bar.  The "General Store" is more of a gift shop.  The restaurant is to "posh" for me.

The story of Camp Verde was interesting to us.....who would have thought that the US would have been interested in Camels?  Deb and I didn't go into the store at Camp Verde - we did stop at the park across the street and read about some of the history.  We attempted to find the remains of the old Fort - only later did we learn that it was on private property and no longer accessible to the public.

We also have learned to like the little towns of Centerpoint and Comfort.  The limestone buildings in Texas are far different than the ones here in Kentucky.  We live in an area called Camp Springs, and the German settlers built lots of houses using the local Limestone.  Our limestone is much whiter than the limestone in Texas, and the slabs are thinner here.  The limestone blocks in these Texas buildings must have been quarried......while the KY homes were built from rocks gathered from the fields and streams by early settlers.

Hay has anybody here ever rode in the Burr's Trail Utah area ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbEU-o7OOrY

I'm sure I watch too many "U-Tube" videos !  Roll Eyes

So , I was checking on Camping Cabins in the area and found this :

https://bearvalleyrv.com/gallery/

It looks like the Sheep Wagons sleep three for $65 +$4/night $23.oo each for running water bathrooms/showers and a place to nap away the night.

Or

Marcia's not too interested in going anywhere right now , her Mom is 99 going on 100 next April.

There are "So Many" interesting places to go and so few summers !
Anybody else been looking at places to spend a week or 10 days on the road ?
