He acted as a 'senior political advisor', organized meetings with European far-right politicians and declared costs to a company run by a Chinese spy. Dewinter invited Chinese officials to a counter-terrorism conference and tried to strengthen relations with Chinese authorities. He denies political involvement and claims to have only been aware of the espionage at a late stage.
At the end of last year, there was also a great commotion in Belgium when it turned out that Frank Creyelman, also a member of Vlaams Belang, was active as a spy on behalf of China. He was expelled from the party.
