Don’t rat me out to the EPA, but I have a corner in the backyard against the fence that I don’t like using the weed wacker. Similar to Dave’s approach.

Lol, I will likely do the similar.
Anyhoo, here's the Petcock I got--it's different than my OEM. Think this will work?

I've tried a couple of the cheap petcock valves. They are hit and miss.
Is there a filter screen for the main fuel? I see the screen on the reserve fuel feed. The nipple on that one looks small too.
On the cheap petcock valves, I've had problems with the filter screens falling off and the o-ring seal at the tank causing a leak (really thin o-ring).
If it doesn't have the filter/screen on the main, it will pass crap through the fuel system to the carb.
Here's the one I've had good luck with if you don't want to buy the Raptor petcock valve. It has the 8mm nipple, seals well, and the filter screens don't easily fall off. Don't use the inline fuel filter included (that's a whole nuther problem).

The cost of the Genuine article, the Real McCoy, is not that much. Having something that you can trust and depend on is worth something.

Agree. I've bought these for non-running bikes I've bought to see if I can get the bike running before I invest more money. The real McCoy would be better for the reasons you note.
