There is some old water moisture or condensation stain on the inside of the face glass (plastic) of the speedo. Can the face be removed so I can clean the inside and reseal the face? How?

I looked at a parts diagram and it doesn't show the face being an individual part. It has to come off there somehow. Twist off would be too easy...or am I not twisting hard enough? Do you need a crowbar? LOL

I really just want to clean this one up. It does appear it would have to be removed if the face is gunna come off. Maybe I’ll play with it the next time I have the tank off. It’s pretty convoluted the way the Speedo mounts with the springs and all.

The speedo needle broke off on Mad Hamish. (Probably from pegging it too many times. Roll Eyes

).
Some day, I will open it up and glue it back on. My plan is to cut it open with a dremel then JB weld it back closed.
Until then, I will use my trusty Bell Dashboard 150 for my speedometer/trip meter. https://www.bikingbee.com/bell-dashboard-150-14-function-cycle-computer/

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

There are shops that have the equipment necessary to uncrimp and reinstall the trim ring that holds the top glass on. When you are restoring a car or motorcycle they can make repairs and also renew the face and clean or replace the glass.

A Savage may not be worth the cost......there are plenty of spare speedos available for the Savage for cheap or free- your mileage may vary!

Thanks guys. I guess I need to decide how much it bothers me. It’s not terrible.

Y’all know me. If I try to fix it, I’ll probably mangle the trim ring trying to remove it and if I were to use JB Weld to put it back together I’d probably make a bigger mess than it is.

The “mileage may vary” comment made me laugh. How many miles do you want on your bike? Go for a Youzguyz — 222,222 on 2/2/22 at 2:22!
