I didn't Say Politico had Only USAID buying their product, E. That was a crap argument.
I never said that either.
Claiming that Politico had to stop their entire payroll specifically because USAID funding was stopped, and only USAID funding since that's all that was referenced, is a crap argument. There's no reasonable expectation that money withheld from USAID would completely stop the payroll of a company as large as Politico - which is exactly what was claimed since it could not be coincidence.
The money they make that comes from the taxpayers is what needs dealt with. Afaik some would be reasonable. But, what this says is not.
I agree, but as usual, I don't blindly agree with anything online that says what I think is true.
Politico has responded to the controversy, writing in a Thursday memo that they have "never received any government funding — no subsidies, no grants, no handouts. Not one dime, ever, in 18 years," but that $27 million in government subscriptions to "Politico Pro" is simply "a transaction," akin to the government buying "research, equipment, software and industry reports." This is true. I get paid by the US Government when providing a service and I do not claim the income as "funding, subsidies, grants, or handouts". It is a transaction. I do think this type of "transaction" should be investigated, but also how do they manage what, if any publications the US Government is allowed to purchase?
Can they purchase Popular Mechanics? Can they purchase TheGatewayPundit? How will this be decided?
