In July 1942, the Germans began transporting Jews who had gathered in Amsterdam to Westerbork, a camp in the north-east of the Netherlands. Westerbork was a transit camp , and Jews were then transported again to extermination camps in the east.
The Dutch police actively collaborated and assisted the German authorities in the rounding up of Jews on the streets or in their homes. Dutch railway workers also administered and operated the trains in which Jews were deported to and from Westerbork.
The last train left Westerbork for Auschwitz-Birkenau on 3 September 1944, by which time 107,000 Jews had been deported. Of this number, only 5,200 people survived. ..."
Just don't understand why your Country wants to Kill Jews. Listen carefully: the Germans invaded the Netherlands in 1940. From that moment on, the persecution of Jews began in the Netherlands, led by the German occupiers.
Unfortunately, every country has its traitors — including the Netherlands. Some Dutch people collaborated with the Germans. They were organized in a political movement called the NSB, which stands for National Socialist Movement (in Dutch: Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging).
After the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945, many NSB members were arrested and put on trial. Some were mistreated by the public or even killed. A special prison camp for collaborators was established — for example, Camp Westerbork was used for this purpose after the war.
When the Germans occupied the country, large companies were forced to work for the German war effort. The Nazis wanted to keep the Dutch economy running in order to help finance the Atlantic Wall and support the German war machine.
At the same time, a strong underground resistance emerged. Many brave citizens helped hide Jews from the Nazis. A famous example is Anne Frank. Many ordinary people risked their lives to do what was right.
In fact, in my previous house, I discovered a hidden space that had clearly been used as a hiding place. It was cleverly concealed in a hallway on the second floor and just big enough for three people.
The resistance did what it could under very dangerous circumstances. The Germans were often cruel and ruthless, and people lived in constant fear. Hiding Jews or resisting the regime could lead to arrest, torture, or execution.
The Nazis operated in a systematic and brutal way, often with help from Dutch collaborators in the NSB — which is why they were so deeply hated after the war. Your country has never been occupied.
