So if the 28.3mm steady bearing is correct, what bike might this fit?

How can they try to sell this for a DR650 if 28.3mm is incorrect?  Put it on a lathe and buzz it down?  Shocked

I don't know of any DR650 camshaft that has a 28.3mm steady rest.....the camshaft for the early 1992-1995 DR650 that we use has 25mm just like the Savage.  The later bikes have a completely different camshaft with a decompression mechanism that won't fit the LS650.

It is possible to machine the steady rest down if you have a lathe - but not many folks have that ability.

The good news for DragBikeMike is that the Amazon purchase has a 30 day return policy - he can find out what it is (isn't) - then send it back!!! Smiley

True.  No lathe laying around here.

Very interested to hear DBM’s review and report!  Aside from the 28.3mm question, I really wonder about the quality of materials.  DBM is probably a metallurgist in addition to all his other skills and knowledge!

Not a metalurgist, just a gear-head, wrench-turnin fool.

No sense getting worked up over these knock-off cams until we have the actual bird in hand.  The dimension on their illustration could be a typo, or they might have a bunch of cams that they screwed up and rather than throw them away they are trying to unload on Amazon.  Who knows, could be just about anything.  Once I get the thing we will have plenty of answers.

Regarding the material, I will try to ascertain hardness with some special files.  That's about the best I will be able to do.

This looks to be a very interesting project.

The cam should be here no later than July 1st.  When I get it I will do a full dimensional inspection along with timing checks.

Shorter trip to Hawaii, but it probably has to go to Los Angeles first and then back across the Pacific to Mike.   Huh
