Camshafts for ls650 ?
05/23/25 at 18:06:32

so I’ve got a 08 Suzuki boulevard ls650 s40, and looking to maybe swap in a cam, something that would help with some extra chop in the idle.  Maybe even some more bottom end power.  Right now the bike is all stock except for a Emgo muffler, and wouldn’t mind having a better air filter for it as well.

All of the available performance cams have very little valve overlap and they have no affect on how the engine idles - the engine idles and runs smoothly after installation.

The performance cams do add some torque and horsepower - they work even better with the addition of a Wiseco piston to increase the compression.

The available cams are the Webcam Stage 3 available from Lancer in the Marketplace section - or you could try and find a good used DR650 camshaft from the early model bikes.  If you use a DR650 camshaft you will have to drill oil holes in the lobes to use it in the Savage, and I also drill the center hole to match the size of the hole in the Savage cam.

Ah, in other words I’m likely best to just leave it alone then lol unless I ever had to do the piston or something of such

Not necessarily, a cam swap is not difficult if you have some basic mechanic skills.  A piston swap takes a bit more skill and a few more tools, and some more time, but is doable as well.  Many folks here have done both successfully.

Swapping the cam would I really notice much difference ??
Like I did a stage 2 cam swap on a Honda 450r quad I had, and it made a big difference for mid to top end.

This old post will give you a good idea of what to expect when you install a mild cam like the old DR650 cam.  As Dave previously mentioned, you absolutely must drill the oil holes.  Other than drilling the holes, the cam swap is very easy and can be accomplished with common hand tools.

The old post also includes links to modifications to the air box, carb, and exhaust system.  Each old post measures acceleration so you can do comparisons of the before and after performance.  You will be amazed at the improvement.  Up to and including the cam swap, all the mods are low hanging fruit.

You can also find all this stuff in the Tech Section.

Holy "ZiKueeo".  Hey, it looks like it even has predrilled holes!

"Made of strong and wear-resistant materials, it adapts to a variety of driving environments, .....

I wonder what kind of "chinaesium"alloy" its made with.  Interesting that it adapts to a variety of drving environments.  I wonder what those buzz words strung together really mean.

Call me a cynical jaded skeptic.  But, its cheap so I might try it.  No reviews....

Weird....it has oil holes in the cam lobes, and yet the original DR650 does not use those.

There is no information about lift or duration - who knows what they are?

It could be a cam for the LS650 - but they are promoting it for use in the DR650.

It is not something I would buy and take a gamble on.......it is anybody's guess what it is and what it is made from.
