AI vs "Google" searching
Yesterday

While I consider this an information post; all of my posts should be considered opinion. This post is an opinion.
In my PM conversations I have had a number of discussions about using AI. I am consolidating the primary base-information here.
AI has changed searching on the internet. The primary difference between using AI (Ai overview / Chat GPT etc.) and standard legacy searching (Google/Yahoo/Baidu/Yandex) or "privacy" based engines (SwissCow/Brave/DuckDuckGo) which aren't private at all, is that AI is much more extensive in what it finds and brings to you.
Basically legacy search is ranked pages that you go look at (Observe) and decide how accurate/useful it is, and AI reports back a conversational response, essentially doing the reading of those pages for you.
Legacy searching is asking the Library for some reference books you can read, and AI is having those book read for you, then getting a report back on what is in them.
There are positive and negatives to both. Since those terms are open-ended, my positive might be your negative, it should be considered my opinion about what those are. This post is an opinion. I have found that AI results tend to be more "neutral" but less accurate. If a human continually looks at political Democratic/Republican information a legacy Google search will prioritize similar pages. Now all the sudden everyone loves this POTUS, the internet says so, Google it!
Ad revenue, and ranking is why when two humans Google search for the same exact thing - the results can be different.
AI will typically not do this without direction to do so. Legacy search engines and social media are why Flat Earth has gained popularity. The more Flat Earth you search, the more you find, so it starts to seem accurate because more and more information keeps popping up.
AI feeds less of this and will actually state Flat Earth has a statistically low acceptance and is inaccurate. It is not easy to get AI searching to agree that the Earth is Flat. It can be done however.
