Look around, what do you see?

Good points:

WE HAVE A PROBLEM: This is a well written and thought out article written by a 26 yr old college student by the name of Alyssa Ahlgren, who's in grad school for her MBA. What a GREAT perspecitve...

My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us!
I'm sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis (Florida) trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of presidential candidates calling for policies to "fix" the so-called injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue to look around.

I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook's, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we've become completely blind to it.

Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don't give them a second thought.

We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty One Times!!!

Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful. ??

Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, "An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity."

Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in.

When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I've ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided.

My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let's just say I didn't have the popular opinion, but I digress.

Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country.

People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they've never seen prosperity, and as a result, we elect some politicians who are dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism.

Why? The answer is this,?? my generation has only seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn't live in the great depression, or live through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam War or we didn't see the rise and fall of socialism and communism.

We don't know what it's like to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don't have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it's spreading like a plague."

Let's not forget about what America Was.
My Grampa had a 13 stool snack bar in the foyer of Epps supermarket in North Houston in the 60's. Selling burgers, shakes, dogs, fries, he built himself up. Notice that Those places are gone now. In around six years he saved up and bought a country store with a feed store . He experienced prosperity. The corruptocrats have stolen our prosperity.

The corruptocrats are the capitalists running the US. They've thrown MAGATs some bones, and only now are some MAGATs realizing that pets are prisoners, too. Y'ALL voted for this sh*t show, so now you have to watch it play out.

My younger cousin made $200 per mention on a podcast in high school his sophomore year.  By the time he was a senior he made $550, per mention.

He has zero interest in working in a coal mine, but will work in solar.  He has little interest in working at a Taco Bell, but will do Door Dash.  He has little interest in working at a kiosk in a mall, but will do YouTube reviews of the products they sell.

These are all lucrative opportunities for him, he isn't complaining about how little opportunity he has in life compared to his grandparents simply because he has no interest in farming.  If he spent his time saying how difficult a life of agriculture is to start with 8 acres and work his way up I can imagine his outlook would be Big Ag took his prosperity away.

Good for him. He's discovered niches. What Was was, an economy that was easily navigable by guys who weren't very educated and They could raise a family and the wife not even have to work.
I'm sure the democrats didn't profit from the corruption and waste that has turned Americans into wage slaves.

When I was 18, I went to a blacksmith's shop and was given the opportunity to forge something, and I was instantly hooked. Although the craft was dying out, I dove in wholeheartedly and managed to tap into new markets during a crisis. I was never out of work. I was busy day and night, and I didn't see it as going to work, I had the most fun.

You have to be a little lucky in life, is what I'm trying to say.

 I'm sure Republicans didn't either.

My point is he can complain about the way large companies bought up all the farmland, or work for them, or work elsewhere.  What is not happening is a situation where there is nothing he can do in life to be prosperous because small farms are going away so he will be poor.  He has a ton of opportunity in life, just not the exact same ones his parents did.  Time and technology has changed - an 18 year old can make thousands a month on YouTube.

My other cousin makes over 100k a year at 20 as an online propagandist.  In his free time he is taking up robotics so he can work on cars - because cars won't be worked on in mechanic shops as much.  Now he could always go work in the mechanic shop for a little over minimum wage, or work at some call-center.  Poor guy has no opportunity?

That’s not the real question. The real question is, why do we not understand how lucky we are to be here, in this country, at this time.

Then you are not here.

You are sitting somewhere in your mind thinking, and that gives a feeling of ‘I’ and that makes you unhappy.

Rather presumptuous there.  I think Webstermark is asking a pertinent question that requires nothing more than assessing what he actually asked.

And why do you think I haven't?

I know Webster quite well and always read his pieces: He makes sense to me. Even though I don't always agree with him, I like that.
I try to understand as best as I can what he is saying. And usually I succeed.
And I have something to say, and you're not interested.
