There are many small towns that were built on the tops of hills and fortified for protection - after the Roman government fell these little towns had to protect themselves.  Many of the buildings were built in the 1100-1400's!

The streets are very narrow, they can be very steep, and they are made from small cobblestones laid in a pattern of intersecting curves.

Narrow streets accessible only to foot traffic.  (Some areas allow residents access for cars/scooters/bicycles).

There are many alleys for access to buildings that are not on the main streets.

This is an amazing trip - I never dreamed I would have been able to take a trip like this (Deb's sister was at a charity auction and won a week stay in a house at Lake Como).

I now believe everyone should figure out a way to travel to some place in the world that has this kind of history.  Until you see this in person you can never fully appreciate how incredible it is.  The buildings in Rome are absolutely huge - the ruins of homes up on the hill above the Forum were mansions of incredible size and covered acres of ground.

The folks at Ducati appear to understand the rules for good air flow!

The belt on the Ducati is the drive for the overhead cams - it has one belt for the front cylinder and one for the rear cylinder.  On the street bikes the belt is covered and out of view.  The belt drive replaces the bevel drive used on the earlier models.

I likely won't be able to see as many exciting motorcycles for the rest of the trip.  We are now somewhat stationary in Lake Como and the weekend is over - so there are far less motorcycles coming through the Piazza (town plaza).

I am only 3.9 miles from the Moto Guzzi Museum (the way the crow flies), and I had planned to go.  The museum is on the other side of the lake however - and you either have to take the car ferry and then drive a mile to the museum/or your have to drive around the north end of the lake.....and both of those trips requires 1.5 hours.  I was still planning on going - then I found out they are only open to visitors for a short period of time in the afternoon and you have to make an appointment at least a day in advance.  With 5 other people in the group - the trip just seems inappropriate.

Here is an interesting car.  It appears electric, and that would likely work very well in these cities for your daily commute.

Here is another one that is likely an EV and small in size.

I am not entirely sure who makes this car (and that occurs a lot as there are names and symbols on cars I don't recognize).

There is the logo "SMART" on the back, and the wheels have a large "B" in the center.  The chrome logo on the front doesn't help me any.

I am not sure if it is an EV, Hybrid or fossil fuel car.

It is obvious that you can find places to park it where other cars won't fit.

It looks sporty.  I believe the roof has a removable panel to let the sun and wind in.

It might take me a while to be comfortable with only 3 lug nuts on each wheel! Shocked
