Of course every "donation" among nations comes with a catch so with enough mental gymnastics one can say they were "sold" by methods other than what "sold" is historically used as in normal conversation.

The best part was when we purchased unusable ventilators from Russia during that same time. "We" in the previous sentence and only the previous sentence with the exclusion of all other sentences, represents the "United States".
