Here’s something to think about though. Think back to when Bill Clinton was impeached. Imagine a scenario where Al Gore stands up and says, I resign as Vice President and intend to run for President the next term, because I cannot work for this immoral man. As you no doubt know, Gore lost to,Bush in an extremely close race. Had he resigned under protest, would have been elected?
Hard to say because he would still have to get the nomination, and it’s likely the democratic party may have rallied against him, but on the other hand, they may not have and it wouldn’t have taken much for Gore to have won.
Here’s the question. What if JD Vance said I cannot be vice president under this situation and I intend to run in 2028. What would happen?
I think there’s a 1% chance of that but interesting idea.
Interesting idea. If Trump continues with this nonsense, what you suggest Vance do would be entirely honorable in my opinion. However Honor and integrity don't get you very far in politics. Trump would attack Vance relentlesly just like he has attacked any one else that he thinks is disloyal to him. There are enough republican politicians that, even if they don't like Trump, are terrified about what he is capable of doing to their prospects of staying in office and on the gravy train, to deny Vance any chance of getting the nomination. I'm pretty sure Vance knows that.
In any case I think Trump is pissing away any chance of having a congress that will work with him after 2026, and probably any chance of there being a conservative President in 2028. I know that a lot can happen between now and then, and I hope I'm wrong, but thats my opinion right now.
Of course in 2020, even as cynical as I tend to be when it comes to politics, I didn't think this country was stupid enough to elect Joe Biden. So what the h*ll do I know.
