This is what I did...the engine only seems to be slightly lean when cold, with only an occassional pop. It goes away when it warms up....no black smoke and never a backfire at all.
1. I drilled out the plug on the idle mixture screw and adjusted it richer.
2. I found a spacer for the jet needle that was 1/2 thickness of the original. From about ~3 mm to 1.5 mm (~.100" to .050") to raise the needle a little bit.
3. I installed a #155 main jet.
All those seem to have gotten the carb jetting close to those in the original 1986 models. I didn't think that just removing the spacer was the best way to go. At 60
oF I don't ever need any choke and if colder only to start it and I turn it off right away.
For the main jet, I think that I could actually benefit from a #157.5 or #160 main jet, but I haven't gotten around to getting one. The reason is that the ID of the Raask is larger (throughout) than the stock header pipe so there is better flow than with the 1986 exhaust. I also have a K&N pod filter too.
Remember....I did all this from experimentation because I first had a SuperTrapp and then got the Raask. My wife is running the Trapp on hers now with a #152.5 and a stock intake and stock needle jet. She also has no backfires.
