Seat Repair?
10/26/05 at 16:43:00

Hey all,

The stock seat on my 1986 savage is ripping at the seams.  It has the vertical seams every couple inches and this is where it is splitting.  I really like the style of the stock seat so I want to keep this one.

What is the cheapest/best way to have this repaired?

Getting a replacement seat is also an option, as long as it didn't coast anymore than a repair.

Anyone have this same problem?

Thanks

Weez

Auto parts places usually have vinyl seat repair kits for about $10. I've never tried one but it might be worth a look.

I've done the seat both ways.  I bought a metre of black vinyl and sewed a new seat covering myself.  It took me two nights and it looked okay but hardly stock.
The vinyl cost me $14 and the black thread was the very toughest I could get at $5 for a little spool.

I then took the seat in and had it done professionally.  This was a guy doing it in his garage on the side so he only charged me $45 and it basically looks as good as it did from the factory, with the neat stitching going right across, etc.

Hope this helps....good luck!

I bought some black vinyal and it only cost me 1.88 for like 36 in by 54 in.  It was 50% off.  I really didnt like the seam look and I added a bike gel cover inside it and it feels good.  Sits like 1/2 lower too.  yee haw

I remember reading another post a few months back where someone went to a marine supply (boat repair) store and picked up some of the heavy duty vinyl there.  I think they claimed it was sturdier stuff than most vinyl.  Anyway, it's something to look into.
