After about 6 hours of fabrication and sweating I finally got my screaming eagle mounted last night. My old pipe was solidly rusted to the header, so getting that thing off was incredibly tough, then making the stock muffler mount work was an incredible project as well. But eventually I got it all mounted and set. Thank goodness I have a mechanic friend who helped me do this at his shop.
First thing I have to say is WOW, that deep rumble is amazing. I never imagined that my bike could make sounds like that. Once you get that thing up to speed on the highway that thump becomes almost melodic.
So after firing it up initially it was backfiring badly, I took the idle mixture screw out probably about 1.5 - 2 turns which really helped. But it still seems to be backfiring on a rapid decel (going from open to close throttle quickly) but not on accell or on shutoff. Do you guys think that I just need to keep fiddling with the mixture until I get it right? Or perhaps reclamp it down?
Im really hoping I dont have to rejet to get rid of the pops, I'm at a 150 and 50 right now.....

Mine does it too and I didn't rejet. I am going to to help the horse power. You may have a small exhaust leak. That will give you the small pops on decel when your engine is under heavy load.

must be very sure there are no leaks - what have you done with the white spacer ?

Yeah, im hoping its just a small leak. I've replaced the white spacer with 2 washers.
I think this weekend im going to take the whole header off to wrap it and replace the gasket from the header to the head. I'll wrap the muffler to header connection that clamp it down even harder.
Basically, I will do anything to avoid taking my carb out again. I've done that too many times already this season.

pulled it out completely and tried that... still back fired! cut it in half then replaced it. Still back fired, but not as bad! turned out the idle screw and whallah! Now I have the small vacume leak to tend too! I just have to get a new crush gasket to put in there and weld my new pipe together! Should be done this weekend. May take some pics and put up!

Hey Chopped, where you able to get your muffler to run parallel with your swingarm? I had to heat up and bend the muffler mount to get the muffler to line up, but its still not really close to parallel with the swingarm, still pointing up a little bit.

It should have about 7deg angle to it to get it line up with your brace under the control arm. I cut the spacer off of my old muffler and am going to weld it on this weekend. To note: all I did was buy some straight exhaust pipe from the auto parts store and BAM... instant straight pipes... how much did you pay for your pipes?

Oh... you can possible heat up your header down pipe at the muffler side and give it a bit of a tweak. that may correct your problem. I just tinker until I get something that works and looks.... OK

Wow straight pipes from the auto store, never thought about that. I paid $50 for a used SE muffler, probably got overcharged, but oh well.
I heated up the muffler mount and brought that way out. Before I did that the muffler was touching the brake line and about 4 MM off the swingarm. Now I have much more clearance from both the brakeline and swingarm but its def not parallel.
I like your idea of heating up the header and tweaking it from there.

Oh... and I paid $6.97 for my pipe and used the stock muffler clamp! Worked pretty well considering it was a hair too big! Cutting and welding is the best option for me. I may thake the header off, cut it apart and pull out the inner pipe! More flow, less restriction, more power! Will need new jets and better air flow for that one!

easy enough to be done in a day. I may take my welded one down to the muffler shop and have them make me a one off custom pipe. A solid single piece from the case to the tip! Might look pretty good powder coated after that!

You may have to take the battery box off, that's about 10 minutes.....
