question about putting a 95 engine into an 88
04/26/08 at 09:16:42
I bought a brand new Triumph Scrambler so I'm back2trump and my 88 Savage has been my backup bike. I let my buddy learn to ride on her and she's at the point where she needs a top end rebuild for oil leak, cam tensioner and such. I saw an ad for a wrecked 95 and the guy is only asking $350 so if the engine is in good shape I'm thinking about buying it as a parts bike and putting the engine into my 88.
I know this bike has remained pretty much the same since the beginning but I'm wondering how easily a '95 engine would fit into an '88 as it would also give me a whole extra parts bike as well. Any opinions from the Thumper experts on here would be appreciated.

I'm certainly no expert, but I did put a 2002 engine in an 87 without a hitch. All mounting bolts lined up and it works like a charm. Can't imagine a 95 to 88 would be any less seemless. I think a parts bike for $350 is a pretty good deal.

Seems like you have the real deal, as I think the CDI box has to match the flywheel and maybe left case 1/2 as there were sme changes made from the 4 sp to 5 speed models in that area. Max
