Front break switch
07/29/08 at 20:19:42

Hi guys my front break switch is not working My bike is 1987 ls650p  what I have is this. On the bike.

For some strange reason #8 Piece was not there.

But I also found this diffrent type of switch While looking on the net supposed to be the same bike same year.

Are they interchanceable?  Can I do a mod?  Any ideas would be helpfull!  The reason that I ask is that I have 2 bikes with the top switch and neither one of them works!  Did Suzuki make a change for some reason?

I got lost in the middle of your question.  You said you found the other kind of switch.  Do you mean you found it on your bike?  Or you found it for sale somewhere?  Also I'm not clear on why you want to change to a different switch.

Sorry, but the coffee won't be working thoroughly until after I've gone off to work.

Looking at the microfische for 1987, it shows  LS650 as F & P (bar style)

Then for handle bar control pages,
Switch in first  picture is for the models G/J
Switch in second is for models K/L/M/N/P
.... where the letters are the year.  I don't have my Facroy service manual in front of me , it has the letter year breakdown......

EDIT:  You should be able to just look at it and see the difference....

I have 2 bikes with the same switch the top switch.  Neither work.  I know they, the two types of switches, are diffrent..  I want to know if there is a known problem with the top switch.  Why they changed! Should I spend the 3 bucks plus shipping to find out I wasted my money or try a mod.

Just found
Crossing the contacts on the switch (top picture middle part) dose not turn the break light on, seams I also have another problem. Huh

I don't have them sitting in front of me, but from the pictures the top one looks like a leaf spring switch and the bottom is a common snap switch.  They probably changed because the snap type is completely enclosed.

Did you check the 2 wires going to the switch because I found one of mine had pulled out of the crimp and that was why the brake light did not work when the front brake was pulled.

I don't know.  They might mount in the same holes but doubt it.

Did you find what was keeping the light off when you shorted it?

by the way, if anyone has one of these laying around, can you send it my way?  both metal tabs broke on mine so only my rear brake sets off the light, which sucks for trying to navigate L.A. traffic without getting rammed.

OK I got the seat off and unwraped most of the electrical tape.  It looks like 2 harneses was spliced together actually whoever did that did a pretty good job. Cool
Checked continuity. The problem is between the switch and somewear under the tank.  Roll Eyes
Had to close up to get ready for work.
Any sugestions?
